LeadershipBiographies and contact information on the leaders of the Baptist Student Union. Heather Bolt, BSU President bolthr6@wfu.edu Hi, my name is Heather Bolt and I am the president of BSU this year. I am a senior Sociology major and Women's and Gender Studies minor. I grew up in Hillsville, VA only an hour from dear old Wake Forest. I am very proud to be a life-long demon deacon!Coming to Wake Forest I had no desire to seek out the Baptist Student Union, however here I am. :) BSU has opened my eyes to many different views of "being Baptist." I have been challenged, confused and educated, but I have been able to shape and mold my faith by the influence BSU has had on my life. BSU is the place for me and I hope it will be for you too! As well as serving for BSU council, I am a busy student on campus. Currently I serve on Screamin' Demons, a student chair for the 2009 President's Ball, and teach group fitness classes at the Miller Center on campus (Come to my class!). I also take part in BSU's Special Ministries, where I spend an hour each Thursday at Brookridge Retirement Home where our group sings, visits and laughs with the residents! I hope you'll make BSU a part of your life this year! See you Tuesday at 6:00! Love, Heather Matt Steen, BSU Secretary/Treasurer/Alumni Relations steemr6@wfu.edu Hi, my name is Matt Steen, and I'm a senior computer science major. I'm a lifelong Wake fan, and I have the emotional scars to prove it. I like to play the guitar when I've got some spare time, and I am pretty much inseparable from my computer. I enjoy playing (and losing at) BSU intramurals, singing, and long walks on the beach (the last time I was there, I walked 3.6 miles. no joke). Anyway, I am a man of few words, and it's getting late, so that's all for now. Come say hello to get to know the real me. I hope to see you on Tuesday nights! Matt Dylan Spivy, BSU Pastoral Care Coordinator spivdw8@wfu.edu
Anna Harris, BSU Fellowship Coordinator, Campus Outreach ![]() ![]() Hey! I’m Anna Harris and I’ll be serving as your Fellowship / Campus Outreach Coordinator this year in BSU. I’m looking forward to planning a bunch of fun stuff for all of us to do together – especially tailgates! I’m a junior Psychology major and Spanish minor from Cary, NC. At Wake, you can find me hanging out in the BSU lounge, doing volunteer work, holed up in some psychology lab somewhere, or cheering in the stands at any football or basketball game. I’m into music, books, food, bad TV, and most of all, people – I love a good conversation and I’m looking forward to having a few with new and returning BSUers! BSU has been a true blessing during my first two years at Wake, and I am thrilled to be able to give something back to this wonderful group of people! I’m very excited to meet you this fall, and I hope that BSU will become something special for you as well. Besos y abrazos, Anna Robert Lyday, Special Ministries Coordinator ![]() Greetings. I am the special ministries guy. Majoring in Computer Science and dear old WF. Please know that people will lie about me. They will say that I am a bad driver. That I like movies. That I can fix your computer. And that I live in the lounge. As I set the record straight, maybe you will learn a little about who I am. I am an entirely decent driver who loves movies and will happily play around with your computer. I no longer live in the love lounge because my room is bigger. I love Cheerwine. Talk to me so that I will talk to you. Kathleen Hill, Covenant Family Coordinator hillke8@wfu.edu Liz Magargee, Worship Coordinator ![]() ![]() Hello! My name is Liz and I am in charge of planning Horizons (our Tuesday night worship service) for BSU. I am from the wonderful state of Ohio, where we say crazy things like pop instead of soda and don't have a sweet second person plural like y'all. I'm a senior majoring in Mathematical Economics and Latin (dead languages are definitely the best languages) and I love smiling, playing cards, volleyball, and music. Percussion is awesome, and when I'm not in the lounge you can probably find me in Scales because of Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, or Concert Choir. I'm also the resident BSU Presbyterian, living proof that you don't have to be Baptist to find a home in the BSU :) BSU is my home away from home, and I really hope you'll come visit us so you can become a part of our family as well! Hope to see you on Tuesday! :) Liz Doug Biggerstaff, BSU InternI am currently in my second year of working toward a master's degree at Wake Forest University Divinity School. I have an undergrad degree in English, I am from North Carolina and I will be interning this coming school year with the Bapstist Student Union at Wake. I have a heard a lot about BSU and I am looking forward to my internship. Looking forward to meeting you! Doug Stephen Turner, Freshman Representative ![]() Hey I’m Stephen and I am the proud freshman representative on the BSU council. I plan on majoring in finance and minoring in computer science. I like playing tennis and am on the Ultimate Frisbee club team. I also like being outside, watching movies, eating, goofing off, and snoozing on the glorious BSU denim couches. And all God’s people said? (Amen) I really love BSU because of the small and intimate size of the group. I believe you can easily connect with the group here because they are extremely open. I know that the people here will love you for who you are and that they are pursuing Christ. I look forward to meeting anybody who comes through the door! Kathleen Hill, Covenant Family Cooridnator Hey all! I'm Kathleen Hill, and I am your Covenant Family Coordinator/Pastoral Care leader for Spring 2009!! I'm in charge of organizing our awesome Bible studies, taking your prayer requests and concerns, and making sure you feel welcome and at HOME at both Wake and in Baptist Student Union. A little bit about me: I'm a sophomore English/Health and Exercise Science major from Tampa, Florida. I'm a Catholic, a fun fact that a)proves that you do not have to be Baptist to love and find a family with BSU and b)makes many people (especially Father Jude) laugh and good naturedly joke with me about the paradox. Aside from Baptist Student Union, you can find me around campus cheering on the Deacons with the Screamin' Demons, volunteering, or with my sorority, Phi Mu! I also love reading, photography, movies, baking, horseback riding and traveling. Baptist Student Union has become a home away from home for me, and I hope it can be the same for you! ~Kathleen |
